Perimenopause Skin Changes The Glow Up Nobody Asked For

Nineteen years ago, I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror with a baby on my hip, running on three hours of sleep, and trying to recognize the tired face staring back at me.

My skin felt like it had changed overnight, drier, redder, more unpredictable than ever.

Everything I used before pregnancy? Useless.

I remember laughing (and crying a little) because not only was my life turned upside down, but apparently my skin wanted a whole new routine too.

Fast forward almost two decades, and here I am again, this time in perimenopause.

One day I wake up with cheeks so dry they feel like sandpaper, the next day there’s a hormonal breakout on my chin like I’m 16 again, prepping for prom.

And then come the hot flashes, The Glow Up nobody asked for.

Here’s what I’ve learned along the way

  • Hormones rule the game. Whether it’s postpartum or perimenopause, they always get the final say on what my skin is going to do.

  • Botanicals beat battles. I don’t need harsh chemicals. My skin calms down when I feed it gentle, plant-based ingredients like chamomile, green tea, and aloe.

  • Hydration saves the day. Oils and serums that I used to avoid? They’re my secret weapon now. They keep my skin soft, balanced, and a lot less angry.

  • Less is always more. Gentle cleansing, layering hydration, and skipping the scrubs has been key. My skin doesn’t bounce back from punishment the way it used to.

Perimenopause isn’t the end of glowing skin. It’s just a new chapter. It's pretty amazing how women seem to invent themselves over and over again throughout their life time.

My skin is evolving, and so am I.

Aging isn’t a fight, it’s proof that we’ve lived, loved, raised kids, survived sleepless nights, and earned every laugh line.

So if you’re standing in your bathroom mirror right now, wondering why you’re suddenly breaking out and feeling dry all at once, you’re not crazy, you’re just in perimenopause.

And you’re definitely not alone.

Faith+Fearless Tip

Nourish your skin with botanicals, layer in hydration, and stop punishing it.

Your glow isn’t behind you, it’s shifting with you.

And honestly?

This stage has its own kind of power.

With so much love,

Sarah XO
